Then, the person's present age $=\left(\frac{2}{5}\right)\mathrm{x}$
Then according to the question
$\Rightarrow \left[\left(\frac{2\mathrm{x}}{5}\right)+8\right]=\frac{1}{2}\times \left(\mathrm{x}+8\right)$
$\Rightarrow 2\left(2\mathrm{x}+40\right)=5\left(\mathrm{x}+8\right)$
$\Rightarrow 4\mathrm{x}+80=5\mathrm{x}+40$
$\Rightarrow \mathrm{x}=40$
∴ The age of mother is $40$ years
