What is the smallest ratio amongst the following - 1 ∶ 1, 5 ∶ 7, 4 ∶ 7 and 5 ∶ 6

Solution:

By simplifying fractions-

1 : 1 = 1/1 = 1, 5 : 7 = 5/7 = 0.714, 4 : 7 = 4/7 = 0.571 \and 5 : 6 = 5/6 = 0.833

As one can notice-

0.571 < 0.714 < 0.833 < 1

∴ 4 ∶ 7 < 5 ∶ 7 < 5 ∶ 6 < 1 ∶ 1

∴ Smallest ratio is

4 ∶ 7
