Total number of boys and girls = 100 and Rs. 312 are distributed among the boys and girls such that each boy gets Rs. 3.60 and each girl gets Rs. 2.40
CALCULATION:
Let the number of boys is x and the number of girls is $\left(100-\mathrm{x}\right)$
$\Rightarrow 3.6\mathrm{x}+\left(100-\mathrm{x}\right)\times 2.4=312$
$\Rightarrow 3.6\mathrm{x}+2.4\times 100-2.4\mathrm{x}=312$
$\Rightarrow 1.2\mathrm{x}+240=312$
$\Rightarrow 1.2\mathrm{x}=312-240$
$\Rightarrow 1.2\mathrm{x}=72$
$\Rightarrow \mathrm{x}=60$
∴ Number of girls $\left(100-\mathrm{x}\right)$ = (100 - 60) = 40
