LAN, WAN and MAN are computer networks covering different areas. Their first alphabets L, W and M respectively stand for local, wide and metropolitan.
• LAN (Local Area Network) is a small and single site network.
• MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)connects an area larger than a LAN, but smaller than a WAN, such as a city with dedicated or high performance hardware.
• WAN (Wide Area Network) is a geographically dispersed collection of LANs. The Internet can be considered as WAN as well.
