7x + 3y = 44 ----(1)
Multiplying second equation by 7,
⇒ 7 × (x + 5y) = 20 × 7
⇒ 7x + 35y = 140 ----(2)
Subtracting (1) from (2), we get,
⇒ 7x + 3y – 7x – 35y = 44 – 140
⇒ 32y = 96
⇒ y = 96/32 = 3
Substituting in first equation,
⇒ 7x + 3(3) = 44
⇒ 7x = 44 – 9 = 35
⇒ x = 35/7 = 5
∴ The solution for the equations is 5, 3
