Raghunandan sells a machine for Rs 45 lakhs at a loss. Had he sold it for Rs 55 lakh, his gain would have been 9 times the former loss. Find the cost price of the machine.

Solution:

Let Cost Price of machine be x
Loss = Cost Price – Selling Price = x – 45
Selling Price of machine = Rs. 55 lakh
⇒ Cost Price + Gain = 55
⇒

x + 9(x – 45) = 55

⇒

10x = 460

⇒

x = 46

∴ Cost Price of machine = Rs. 46 lakhs
