A 400 m long train crosses a platform in 36 seconds while it crosses a signal pole in 16 seconds, then what is the length of the platform?

Solution:

From the given data, we get
⇒ Speed of the train = (400/16) m/sec = 25 m/sec
Let the length of the platform be x meter, then

(x + 400)/36 = 25

⇒

x + 400 = 900⇒ x = 900 – 400 = 500

m
∴ Length of the platform is 500 m
