Let x years be the present age of A & y years be the present age of B.
Sum of present ages = 47 → x + y = 47 …. Equation (1)
Then, After 5 years
Age of A = x + 5
Age of B = y + 5
Ratio=x + 5/y + 5= 8/11
By solving it we get:
11x - 8y = -15 …… Equation (2)
By solving equation (1) and equation second we get:
x = 19 & y = 28.
Hence, the present age of A is 19 years.
