According to Kothari Commission (1964-66),

Mathematics should be made a compulsory subject for the students of classes/grades I to X, as a part of general education.
It is only an imagination that mental abilities, discipline, cultural, social and moral values are developed in students by Mathematics.
Analytical reasoning, thinking, self-confidence and emotions are developed in students by mathematics.
Every student cannot comprehend the abstraction in mathematics so it should be an optional subject after class VIII
