Let ABCD is a square of side AB = BC = CD = DA = 4 cm
Now, Area of square $={\left(\mathrm{Side}\right)}^2$ $={\left(\mathit{A}\mathit{B}\right)}^2$
∴ Area of square $={\left(4\right)}^2==16\mathit{c}{\mathit{m}}^2$
when this square is cut into 4 equal squares then, area of each smaller square $=\frac{16}{4}=4\mathit{c}{\mathit{m}}^2$
