The length of a rectangle is three times its breadth. The breadth is half the side of a square whose perimeter is 72 cm. Then :

Solution:

Let side of square

= x \cm

Perimeter of square

=4 x \; \cm

4 x=72

⇒ \;\; x \;\; =18 \; \cm

∴ \;\; \;\text " Side of square "\; \;\; =18\; \cm

∴ \;\text " Breadth of rectangle "\; \;\; =9\; \cm

\;\text " Length of rectangle "\; \;\; =9 × 3 \; \cm =27 \; \cm

\;\text " Perimeter of rectangle "\; \;\; =2(l+b)

=2 ( 27 + 9 ) = 2 × 36 = 72 cm
Hence, the perimeter of both rectangle and square are equal.
