Sonu has five dozen toffees. He gave 1/3 of these to Amita, 2/5 of these to Anil and 1/12 of these to Hamida. The number of toffees left with Sonu is

Solution:

Total number of toffees

=5 × 12=60

Number of toffees given to Amita

=60 × \;{1}/{3}=20

Number of toffees given to Anil

=60 × \;{2}/{5}=24

Number of toffees given to Hamida

=60 × \;{1}/{12}=5

∴

Number of toffees left with Sonu

=60-(20+24+5)

=60-49=11
