The perim eter o f tw o sq uares is 12 cm and 24 cm. The area of the bigger square is how many times that of the smaller?

Solution:

Side of small

=\;{12}/{4}=3 {cm}

Area of small square

=(3)^{2}=9 {cm}^{2}

∴

side of

=\;{24}/{4}=6 {cm}

Area of big square

=(6)^{2}=36 {cm}^{2}

Clearly, area of big square

=4

times area of small square.
