Intonation is also known as ‘the music of speech’ and a change in this music (or pitch) can impact the meaning of what we say. We can therefore think of intonation as referring to the way we use the pitch of our voice to express particular meanings and attitudes. Tone, rhyme, and loudness affect intonation because all these are related to pitch of the voice.
