. If 12 is added to both the numbers, then the ratio becomes

5: 7

. the sum of the given two numbers is

Solution:

Let the two numbers be

3 x

and

5 x

respectively.
According to question, if 12 is added to both the numbers.

{3 x+12}/{5 x+12}={5}/{7}

7(3 x+12)=5(5 x+12)

21 x+84=25 x+60

4 x=24

x=6

∴ The sum of given numbers

=3 x+5 x

=8 ×6

=48
