The sides of four triangles are given below:
(i) 20 cm, 22 cm, 24 cm
(ii) 15 cm, 32 cm, 37 cm
(iii) 11 cm, 60 cm, 61 cm
(iv) 19 cm, 40 cm, 41 cm
Which of them forms a right triangle?

Validate

Solution:

In a right triangle sum of square of two sides is equal to square of third sides
(i)

20^2 + 22^2 = 88^4

and

24^2 = 576

∴ 20^2 + 22^2 ≠ 24^2

(ii)

15^2 + 32^2 = 1249

and

37^2 = 1369

∴ 15^2 + 32^2 ≠ 37^2

(iii)

11^2 + 60^2 = 3721

and

61^2 = 3721

∴ 11^2 + 60^2 = 612

(iv)

19^2 + 40^2 = 1961

and

41^2 = 1681

∴ 19^2 + 40^2 ≠ 41^2

Hence, option (C) is right triangle.
