The classical dance form discussed above is Odissi. Tribhanga is a special feature of this dance where the body is deflected at the neck, torso and the knees.
The torso movement is very important and is a unique feature of the Odissi style, where lower half of body remains static and only torso moves.
A class of boys called gotipuas were trained in this art and they danced in the temples. Many of today's Gurus of this style belonged to gotipua tradition. Odissi is a dance form of the Odisha state. It is recognised as one of the eight classical dance forms of India.
