The average of 39 numbers is 17. Each number is multiplied by 12 and then 16 is added to each number. At last each number thus formed is divided by 11. What is the average of new set of numbers thus formed?

Solution:

(c) Average of 39 numbers = 17
Sum of 39 numbers = 17 x 39 = 663
New, sum when each number multiplied by 12 = 663 x 12 = 7956
Sum of all 39 numbers when 16 is added to each = 7956+ 39x16 = 8580
Now, sum of all numbers, when each is divided by 11 =

8580/11

= 780
∴ Average of new set of numbers =

{\Sum \of \the \numbers}/{\Total \number \of \numbers}

780/39

= 20
