The innervation of heart is primarily meant for initiation of heart beat. Heart beat in neurogenic heart is initiated by nerve impulse coming from a nerve ganglion situated near the heart, e.g., arthropods and some annelids, while heart beat in myogenic heart is initiated by a patch of modified heart muscles itself, e.g., vertebrates and molluscs.
