Multicellular, jacketed sex organ of Funaria are of two types; antheridium (male) and archegonium (female). Archegonium produce archegonia, which is flask-shaped, with tubular neck and a swollen stalked venter, while archegonia of Pinus (a gymnosperm) is known as female cone or megasporophyll. Each female cone of Pinus has a long stalk and a central axis, which bear a number of spirally arranged paired scales.
