The Attorney General for India is the chief legal advisor of the government, and is primary lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. He can be said to be the advocate from government. He is appointed by the President of India on the aid and advice of Union Cabinet under Article 76(1) of the Constitution and holds office during the pleasure of the President.
