Village on Wheels are the special train introduced by the Indian Railways in 2008 to cater to the budget tourists, especially villagers, hence the name. The trains connect the selected tourist destinations, usually a circular schedule. The trains are managed by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a public-sector undertaking of the Railways. 'The train is aimed at promoting tourism and connecting one city to another' says the railways official 'the first nine-day journey will cost inclusive of vegetarian meals and snacks'
