Spain is not a member of the G-8 group. The Group of Eight (G8) refers to the group of eight highly industrialized nations - France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, Canada, and Russia. It was originally G-7, Russia was admitted in 1997 to make it $\mathit{G}-8$. Russia was not invited in 2014 and again $\mathit{G}-8$ became $\mathit{G}-7.$
