How to Identify PAST SIMPLE (PAST INDEFINITE)?

• In Active Voice:
  • Past simple tense always carry 2nd form of the main verb or "was/were" if verb absents.
  • In the given sentence "ate" is the 2nd form of "eat" hence the sentence is "simple past"
• In Passive Voice:
  • Past simple tense in passive voice always possesses "was/were and 3rd form of verb"
  • For example: Three apples were eaten by me on Wednesday
