The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 , were passed by the Parliament under 253 of the Constitution of India in pursurance of the decision taken by the United Nations conference on Human Environment held at Stockholm in June, 1972 where India actively participated. This Act has subsequently been amended in 1987 .
