Solution:

According to questions,

x+y=40

....(i)
and

\;\; x+\;{y}/{2}=30

.....(ii)
On subtracting Eq. (ii) from Eq. (i)

x+y=40

\;{x+{Y}/{2}=30}/{{y}/{2}=10}

∴ \;\; y=20

From Eq. (i),

x+y=40

x+20=40

∴

Measure of empty vessel

=20 {kg}
