Two taps A and B can fill an empty tank in 8 hours and 12 hours respectively. But due to leak at the bottom the two taps together took 1 hour 12 min more time to fill the tank. Then the time, in hours, in which the leak alone can empty a full tank of water is

Solution:

The time taken by the A and B together to fill the tank

z =\;{12 × 8}/{20}=4.8

hours = 4 hours 48 minutes.
The time taken by A and B when the leak present = 4 hours 48 minutes + 1 hours 12 minutes = 6 hours.
Let the time taken by the leak alone to empty the full tank be t hours.

\;{1}/{8}+\;{1}/{12}-\;{1}/{t}=\;{1}/{8} ⇒ t=24
