Let r be a rational number such that, if 2 is added to the denominator its value is equal to

1/2

and if 5 is subtracted from the numerator then its value is equal to

1/3

then

{1+r}/{1-r}

Solution:

Let

r=p/q

⇒ \;{p}/{q+2}=\;{1}/{2}

→ (1)

⇒ \;{p-5}/{q}=\;{1}/{3}

→ (2)
On solving (1) and (2)
We get , p = 13 and q = 24

⇒ r=\;{13}/{24}

⇒ \;{1+r}/{1-r}=\;{1+{13}/{24}}/{1-\;{13}/{24}}=\;{37}/{11}
