You must decide whether the data given in the statements are sufficient to answer the questions. Using the data make an appropriate choice from (1) to (4) as per the following guidelines:

What is the mother's age?
I. 15 years ago the mother was twice the age of her daughter five years ago.
II. Five years Later the mother's age will be twice the age of her daughter.

if the statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question.
if the statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.
if both the statements I and II are sufficient to answer the question but neither statement alone is not sufficient.
if both the statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question and additional data is required.

Validate

Solution:

Since age of daughter is not given, we can’t find the mother’s age.

M-15=2(D-5)⇒M=2D+5

...(i)
II. M + 5 = 2(D + 5) ⇒ M = 2D + 5 ...(ii)
(i) and (ii) give the same information. Since the age of daughter is not known,
we can’t find the mother’s age.
Hence, even I & II together are not sufficient.
