Let

A=\{x∈{\R}/x^{2} < 9\}

and

{B}=\{x∈{\R}/4 < x^{2}<16\}

,then

A∩B=

$(-3,-2)∪(2,3)$

Solution:

Given :

A=\{x∈{\R}/x^{2} < 9\}

x^2 < 9

⇒-3 < x < 3

∴A=(-3,3)

...(i)
Given :

{B}=\{x∈{\R}/4 < x^{2}<16\}

4 < x^2 <16

⇒ –4 < x < -2 or, 2 < x <4

∴B=(-4,-2)∪(2,4)

... (ii)
From (i) and (ii)

A∩B=(–3,–2)∪(2,3)
