When tertiary butanol (3∘. alcohol) is passed over heated Cu at 573K, isobutene is formed through elimination reaction. Since, water gets eliminated, so it is also considered as dehydration reaction. The 2∘ alcohol and 1∘ alcohol on the other hand gives ketone and aldehyde respectively in similar reaction.
