Iltutmish was the third ruler of the Delhi Sultanate (1211 – 1236), belonging to the Mamluk dynasty. He was the first Sultan of Delhi to issue regular currency and declare Delhi as the capital of his empire in place of Lahore. He introduced the silver coin (tanka) and copper coin (jital).
