. Find the ratio of their velocities.

Solution:

Given:

\;{m_A}/{m_B}=\;{5}/{1}

and

\;{K_A}/{K_B}=\;{125}/{1}

We know,

\;\; {\K}=\;{1}/{2} m V^2

\;⇒ V\;=√{\;{2 K}/{m}}

\; ∴ \;\;{V_A}/{V_B}\;=√{\;{K_A}/{K_B} × \;{m_B}/{m_A}}

\;⇒ \;{V_A}/{V_B}\;=√{\;{125}/{9} × \;{1}/{5}}

⇒\;\;{V_A}/{V_B}\;=√{\;{25}/{9}}=\;{5}/{3}

\; ∴ \;V_A: V_B\;=5: 3
