(i) Find equivalent capacitance between A and B in the combination given below. Each capacitor is of 2µF capacitance.

(ii) If a dc source of 7V is connected across AB, how much charge is drawn from the source and what is energy stored in the network?
Solution:
(i) Calculation of equivalent capacitance
(ii) Calculation of charge and energy stored
(i) Capacitors C2,C3 and C4 are in parallel
∴C234=C2+C3+C4
∴C234=6µF
Capacitors C1,C234 and C5 are in series
1Ceq=1C1+1C234+1C5 =12+16+12
=76µF
Ceq=67µF
(ii) Charge drawn from the source
Q=CeqV,
=67×7µC=6µC
Energy stored
U=Q22C
=6×6×10−12×72×6×10−6=21µJ
